On 12 and 13 February last, during a conference in the European Parliament entitled “Peace with Water”, Mikhail Gorbachev launched an ambitious initiative: why not include the issues relating to water in UN negotiations concerning the post-Kyoto agreement on climate change? The draft memorandum for a world water protocol is to be signed in Copenhagen in December 2009.
