Tourism and Wetlands: summary of the 11th meeting of the Ramsar Convention

The 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention, known as COP11, was held in Bucharest, Romania between 6 and 13 July 2012. This year, the Ramsar Convention addressed wetlands, as “places to live and tourism destinations”, and reminded attendees that the development of tourism in wetlands was possible, but had to occur in accordance with the Convention, and with a sustainable management process.
